Bio

Sweet Jane have been creating quite a stir on the Irish music scene in the last year with their special brand of psychedelic dream-pop rock‘n’roll.

With a line-up featuring Danda Paxton guitar/ vocals and vocalist Lydia Des Dolles, Ruairi Paxton on bass and Donogh O’Brien on drums, Sweet Jane been garnering attention from several high profile admirers internationally too, including The View, Glasvegas, Bonehead from Oasis, the Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club, and ex-Creation Records boss Alan McGee who has invited them to perform on his Death Disco Tour 2010.

Their live set is an energetic roller coaster of sleazy guitars and achingly sexy vocals, split between Lydia & Danda and topped off with their trademark ‘dream-pop rock ‘n roll’.

The band formed in 2008, and their first recording, the self-released EP Blackboots and Blackhearts released in late 2008, garnered great reviews from the underground press, and the band continued to gig and hone their live set. Late 2009 saw the recording of their debut album Sugar For My Soul, and the band signing to Reekus, who released You’re Making This Hard (from Blackboots and Blackhearts), coupled with Silent Night in December, which brought Sweet Jane’s music to the attention of all the leading alternative DJs on national Irish radio, and garnered them quality airplay. With the release of the album delayed by some months due to technical problems, Reekus re-released the Blackboots and Blackhearts EP in February 2010, garnering more airplay for Sweet Jane, and creating an even greater buzz about the band.

... I The release of the album on July 2nd 2010 saw Sweet Jane elevated to a new high with superb reviews across the board, and a hugely impressive set at Ireland’s biggest festival Oxegen helped to extend their ever growing fanbase.

2011 saw Sweet Jane further their already impressive career with two successful sync endorsements at international music expo Midem, and then in March they were invited to play at SXSW in Austin Texas where they played 11 shows in 5 days culminating in a storming performance in BD Rileys as their showcase gig.

The album meanwhile was licenced to TocoAsia and released in Japan Indonesia Malaysia and Philippines and due to its success there the band were invited to play at Music Matters Asia in Singapore in May, where they played 5 shows and made lots of new fans. Exposure in Asia included several interviews for Singapore media, a live webstream for LiveO music and an interview for Channel News Tv which was broadcast twice all across Asia.

Further gigs at home and an invitation to play at Liverpool Sound City festival increased their exposure at home and in the UK, where the album is getting an August release.

On the home front this year their profile received a significant boost when they were chosen by Suede as support on their Irish tour where they played three nights at the Olympia in Dublin, and now they have been selected to play at Oxegen festival again in July.

The band are currently busy in the studio recording tracks for their second album and are taking time out to play at a number of festivals including Vantastival, Temple House, Oxegen, Glasgowbury, Rock On Oir, and The Electric Picnic
